Pastificio Guerra in the heart of Rome offers a straightforward, no-frills pasta experience that feels genuinely rooted in local daily routines. It’s not a sit-down restaurant but rather a vibrant pasta shop that specializes in fresh, affordable takeaway lunch bowls served from early afternoon. Located on V. della Croce, this spot primarily caters to people looking for a quick, satisfying bite rather than a leisurely meal.

The setup is simple: there are usually two pasta options each day—one with meat and one vegetarian—that rotate regularly, keeping the choices fresh without overwhelming customers. Expect classic Roman flavors like Carbonara or Amatriciana, alongside other rotating specialties such as Pesto or Tuna Tomato pasta. Portions are generous enough that sharing is a realistic option, which appeals to friends or colleagues grabbing lunch together.

The atmosphere buzzes with a casual, almost purposeful energy. Patrons line up just before the 1pm opening to secure their spot, often standing nearby while enjoying their meals, as seating is minimal or nonexistent. The focus here isn’t on lingering but on grabbing great pasta without fuss. That quick-service approach means it fits perfectly into a midday break for locals or travelers who want authentic Roman flavors without the tempo of a formal restaurant.

Price-wise, Pastificio Guerra is remarkable. At just 5 euros per takeaway portion, it offers some of the city’s most affordable fresh pasta. This is significant in a place where dining out can quickly become expensive. The pasta itself maintains a rich, traditional taste, sometimes a bit more on the oily or salty side than more delicate preparations, reflecting a style that suits a busy lunchtime crowd looking for straightforward, filling food.

Beyond the ready-to-eat dishes, the shop also sells fresh dry pasta for home cooking, which draws in locals wanting to bring authentic flavors back to their own kitchens. Though the space is small and simple, the quality of the pasta and the consistency of the offering make it a reliable choice.

Best time to visit is right at opening around 1pm to avoid the queue, especially on weekdays when office workers and locals stop by for a quick lunch. If you can embrace standing and eating on the spot or taking it away, this spot will fit seamlessly into a casual day in Rome, especially if you want something hearty without fuss or high prices.

Absolutely incredible pasta for just 5 euros! I had the carbonara and it was honestly outstanding. Creamy, rich, perfectly seasoned, and full of authentic Italian flavor. You wouldn’t expect such quality at this price, especially as takeaway — but it completely blew me away. Simple, fast, and seriously delicious. This is easily 5 stars. If you’re nearby, don’t hesitate — just go for it!

It was better than I thought - for this price I didnt expect much, but, the guanciale? (I guess, the pork) was thin and crispy, very tasty! The pasta itself is on the salty and oily side but i guess thats just how real pasta are (heavy flavour), so overall im satisfied.

Please God, protect this business so it gets even busier and may the owner and employees prosper They have been selling their pasta at a stable price since the beginning, only 5 euros. There are two menu options: with pork and without pork. The style is to order and then eat while standing. The shop is cute and they also sell dry pasta. Their pasta is very delicious

The BEST affordable pasta in town!!! Super cheap and really delicious. There are only two flavours that change each day, we had one of each - tomato tuna pasta and pesto pasta. Both were so delicious and only €5 for a good sized portion.

Amazing fresh pasta served from 1pm for only 5€. You can only take it away. There are two options, meat and no meat. Make sure to get there right before it opens as a line forms. Definitely worth the wait and the portions are absolutely massive so I would recommend sharing one between two people.

We went here twice in our four day trip which says enough. Both days there was a good option to have, we first had the gnocchi with red sauce and pork (even though we both only got one piece of sausage) and the second day a pasta with tuna which had capers and olives in it. Overall pretty nice pastas for the price that you pay. Perfect and affordable to eat while looking out at the Spanish steps (we took ours out to eat on the piazza in front of it). Overall pretty nice and perfect for if you’re on a budget!!

If you’re looking for a quick, cheap and delicious bite, this is the perfect place. You can choose from their ready-to-go pasta dishes at the counter, and everything is warm and freshly made. The pasta is homemade, and the sauces are homemade too, which really makes a difference in the taste. They don’t have a seating area, but you’re allowed to stand inside the shop to eat, which works well for a quick stop. Simple, fast, and really good a great spot when you want quality pasta without waiting.

Maybe it’s not a "hidden gem" anymore, but this place is an absolute must! Once you taste their legendary pasta for just €5, you'll want to come back every single day. It’s a real treasure located just a few steps from the Spanish Steps. The staff is very friendly and speaks English. They offer two types of pasta daily, one with meat and one vegetarian. Plus, water for only €1 is a rare find in the heart of Rome. Don't forget to buy some of their dried pasta to take home with you!
